An Idea.

Post  Arc on Sun Jan 03, 2010 9:26 pm

Back when I joined 10mfh, the group had two outposts, one in Molebank, and one in Barrville. I joined the Barrville division originally.

So, why don't we gather some decent level alts, and send a group back in? It gives us a 2 suburb buffer between our Molebank alts, so we can keep the 10 square zerging area between us.

Now, Last time I was in town, the entire ruined buisness wasn't yet, so, things should be more difficult, but if we can maintain it, the area around Forshaw Towers had a good free running route. You could move up to a NT, down to a Police station, and a hospital, with a junkyard nearby. This place always has action though, because of the proximity to Ridleybank, any major activity in the region usually gets some form of the RRF to move in.

What do you guys say?

A single strike would be fun, but setting up another effective base of operations would be extraordinary.

I'm game as long as we're not talking two alts in the same group.

10mfh policy was, in the past, that you could have two alts in the group as long as they operate in different staging areas, and they didn't affect the other staging area in any way shape or form. I.E. The molebank alt and the barrville alt can both be members of 10mfh, but they can't do anything that would affect the area of Barrville.

The forming of MCM was the last time we had another staging area, so we haven't had any possibility to discuss policy since then.

I would like Lois's confirmation on any policy I discussed here. Just to check to see if I've turned senile or something.

I've got some spare alts knocking around that could use a group.

However, I'd still feel uncomfortable if both groups shared the same, or similar, names.

I mean, we would know that both groups were seperate and distinct, but from an outisde perspective it looks very dodgy.

Post  Lois Millard on Mon Jan 04, 2010 12:50 pm

It is true, Arc, that we used to allow people to have more than one alt in 10 minutes from hell as long as they were part of separate divisions.
We no longer allow this, however.
This is why MCM is now MCM and not 10 minutes from hell, South Blythville division as it started out. The two groups are completely separate, as it should be.
There was just too much of a chance of alt abuse the way we used to run things. Even if abuse was not occurring, we were open to others interpreting our actions this way.
It's better to be safe than sorry, IMO.

Well, I've been here for a while, and with the absenses, policies change without my knowledge, I apologise.

We didn't run much of a chance of alt abuse based on the members we aquired, but to the outside world things looked differently occasionally. I can see why you prefer it this way.

like the idea of a new group with youse guys... more of the love to spread like warm, smooth... actually the analogy better stop there. Twisted Evil

anyways I have a mid-level pro survivor alt trying to get a rev in ridleybank - yeah i know but hey what the hell - could be put to better use.

so it wouldn't be 10 mfh - but would share that warm specialness. my only concern would be is there enough of us to pull this off? mcm snowballed, but we stay small (compact & bijou!).

thoughts?

Obviously I still like to hear/read myself talk. But at least this time I'm trying to be a bit more considerate of your time. If you're interested in my response to Arc's idea read the 1st paragraph. If you care about my take on the zerging point then go on to the others.

------------ Relevant Constructive Material ----------------
I say count me in on the idea. Call it 10mfh, half past lunch, or late for dinner. I'm sure I can dust off a suitable alt and spin him up for service in the new venture. Pick a spot and give me some time to get him geared up and let's give it a go.
----------------------------------------------

------------- Irrelevant Potentially Augmentative Material --------------
Having said that, as to the NEED for establishing a different group, for anyone who believes that doing this as 10mfh would be zerging, I respectfully disagree. If the game FAQ/Rules on zerging meant that then they would say that. They don't. They say what they say. No more. No less. I've been both terrified and amused that there are some who would approach this small paragraph the way a theologian would conduct a textual analysis of scripture, and even then don't go on to view it in the context of the paragraph that follows it: Zerg reporting .

I've noted that for some reason of late bunches of people out in the great beyond seem to have gotten very emotional on this particular topic. While one of the things I have in common with my namesake is a great love of spirited intellectual and theological debate, what I will absolutely NOT do is be party to one here that could potentially damage our group or risk offending someone. While there are hills I will choose to intellectually die on, this is most definitely NOT one of them.

Now if anyone wants to get together over a nice cup of tea or a beer somewhere and kick the football around on this one, as long as we can agree to walk away friends and work on the barricades together afterwords, then the same goes, pick a spot and I'm game. Otherwise, and if you've read this far I'm sure you'll agree, I've said more than enough on the topic.

My concern isn't zerging, but what's commonly referred to as alt abuse or meta-zerging. Basically, I want to compartmentalize the meta-gaming of my alts. I'll admit that this is largely a matter of subtle semantics, because it would suffice to create a "11 minutes from hell" (say) section on this forum that's private to those signing up to the Barrville operation. In other words, even if we're the same players and use the same forum accounts, there's no problem as long as each group confines their metagaming to their own private realm.

Please excuse my pedantry, but I've been burned by something like this before and ever since I'm a stickler for formalities...

Its no problem, I'm sure lois will be so kind to give us a different forum for our division, and I'm sure we can come up with a clever name for our group.

How about "Hatchet Man Jim's Super Awesome Trechcoater Army Brigade"?

On a more serious note, 10mfh is a group dedicated to maintaining a single suburb. To make things different how about the new group dedicate itself to a different task, such as a mobile force to rebuild ghost towns or reviving the residents of recently decimated suburbs?

Gosh! This sounds like such a good idea, guys! I only wish I had a spare alt to use for this... (I will not create another alt, I will not create another alt, I will not...)

Oh, and concerning the forum? I'd suggest you contact Taloula Belle about that. I'm not the webmaster, here! Smile

Oh - don't misunderstand. I'm sure I have the proper permissions... I'm just not quite sure exactly how to do that.

I'll take a look around when I have some free time and see if I can figure it out.

Yeah, don't worry about it if you don't know how. I've worked with people running sites that didn't even know how to get to the Admin Control Panel, so its nothing to be ashamed of.

I would love to go back to barrville, I already have an alt in the area, but, its in very bad shape, and it might not be the best area to move into immediately. I've been sitting at a revive point for days, with no success, and in the 9 block area I can see has had three buildings fall in two days. And this part was the only part of the area with any buildings up.

If you guys are putting me into a leadership position, I would like to hear everyone else's opinions on the matter. Perhaps there is a better area to move into, with action but not in the direct path of the strongest horde in the game.

The goal is the same goal we have in the mole, to bring whatever burb we move into back to life.

We could also have the new group working over a much larger area than our current one is.

I'd like to hear the other's opinions on these matters.

I don't really care where we'd go, as long as it doesn't cause alt conflicts now or in the foreseeable future. It would be best if we'd stay away from major malls or transit routes, failing that I'd have to give my migratory alts precedence if they were to pass through the area.

Have we ever run a rot revive clinic? There's an idea I'd like to play with, perhaps even as a small group of its own. Most rot clinics use a permanent base and have to deal with incessant griefing and/or trenchy ignorance. Rather than have your patients visit a permanent clinic, I'd like to offer a house-call service. You'd have a contact-listed rotter wait in a ruined NT somewhere, light it up, and revive the rotter. Or everybody inside the NT for good measure. The advantage of such a scheme is that you reduce your exposure to griefing, the downside is that service will be slow. I even have an alt I'd like to use for it, but I can't ever have this one join a group unless I want to invite years worth of griefing by some certifiable players I have the displeasure to have been in contact with.

While the House Call service is a good idea, I don't think we can quite pull it off with the number of memmbers who have shown interest in the new group.

Lets get a roster of people who are willing to put an alt into this.

I'm not really interested in running another survivor regularly right now. Though if you decide on a home base I could bring one of my ferals over to chomp on you. NAM NAM NAM!

I could add another super sekrit area for the forums here for you if Lois gives me the go ahead or if you wanted your own forum site I would be willing to set up something on forum motion for you and completely pass it over. (I'm not interested in admining another forum either!)

As to the objective, I'd support work on a rot revive clinic, although I think mass revives of non-rotters is more supportive of the survivor cause in the long run. Since I hate to decide, how about both? We can pick a base of operations somewhere not likely to cause alt conflicts (barrville looks good to me) and run a rotters revive clinic there, and use it as a base for massive revive expeditions to the redest of red suburbs.

Lois, you know you want to sign up an alt. I can hear your fingers brushing the keyboard from here... As for your and others concern with group naming , is something like "9mfh Barrville division" too close to us to resolve your issues?

Taloula: Go ahead and set up a "sooper sekrit" section of the forum for the new group.

Guys: You really should probably come up with a new group name sooner rather than later... Just saying.

and... maybe in the future I'll join. Not now. I can't. I just changed my nurse to bounty hunting and she is taking a lot of my attention right now.
